Jane represents a wide range of clients in cases ranging from modest and mid-range asset cases to high net worth clients whose cases involve complex matters such as pensions, business interests, trusts and overseas assets.

Jane’s work on complex financial settlements on divorce, separation and family finance often involves the valuation of family businesses both in the UK and overseas, as well as understanding family trusts, and identifying or locating overseas/off-shore assets. Jane works alongside experts from other fields including forensic accountants, property/asset valuers and pension actuaries. Jane works to build strong working relationships, not only with experts from outside the law but also specialist family law barristers and other solicitors.

Jane is known for her pragmatic and outcome-based approach and is recognised by her clients for her unwavering support and focus on achieving the best outcome for each individual client as well as her empathy and compassion.

Jane will seek the best outcome for her clients and does not shy away from robust representation of a client’s case in court where necessary however she will strive to adopt a conciliatory approach focussing on achieving out-of-court settlements where this is achievable, recognising that sometimes it is necessary to prioritise non-financial aims such as the welfare of any children involved. In all disputes, there is a balance to be struck and Jane strives to provide well-considered, down to earth and practical advice.

Jane has also worked as an adviser at Citizens Advice and was a Trustee at Womens’ Aid for a number of years assisting women and children (and latterly men) referred through Independent Domestic Abuse Services and other support organisations.  Jane works closely with counsellors and mediators where needed and has a deep understanding of difficult and sensitive issues such as domestic abuse and coercive control that are sometimes present in relationship breakdown.

Originally from North Yorkshire, Jane attended Liverpool University where she read German and Linguistics, graduating in 1991 and working as a translator and at The British Council HQ in Manchester in overseas development before converting to law and taking the Common Professional Examination at Manchester Metropolitan University followed by the Bar Course to qualify as a barrister.  Jane was called to the Bar (Lincolns Inn) in 2007 and worked in criminal law as a non-practising barrister before cross-qualifying as a solicitor.  Jane has been specialising in divorce and financial remedy and private children cases since 2008.   Prior to joining Newtons in July 2024 Jane practised in Manchester, Cheshire, Liverpool and the Wirral.
