Why You Need a Will Transcript
I often meet clients who don’t have wills in place. I appreciate it’s not a very fun conversation to have, discussing your mortality. I think there’s also a common misconception that your family, on your death, will automatically inherit, which is not the case. Another misconception is that it’s an expensive and complicated process.
At Newtons, we try and keep the process as simple and as painless as possible. There’s an initial meeting where we sit down with clients, we talk through their circumstances — that’s family circumstances, financial circumstances. We would advise on any legal issues, any tax issues, but also the options available to the clients. That initial meeting typically takes between 30 and 45 minutes.
Following the initial meeting, we would send you a client care pack with a draft copy of the wills and a covering letter summarising the wills in very simple terms. There would then be a second meeting where we go through the wills together and, all being well, have the same signed.
In relation to costs, we are very transparent with our fees. Costs would be confirmed at the initial meeting and then again in writing in the client care pack.
