How I Got Here: Buying Newton’s First Office Transcript
So I’ve been asked to give advice on certain milestones during my journey with Newtons. And one of those was when we bought our first office. I remember when we started Newtons and Sarah said to me, well, you need an office. Well, actually you don’t.
So I started from home. I saw clients in the dining room. I worked in the loft. Everybody is very supportive when you’re starting a new business. We did reach the stage, however, when I thought we need an office. And having worked from home for a year, I realised that I didn’t need to be in the town centre.
And our first office that we bought was in Knaresborough on the St. James Business Park, which is now our head office. And we bought next door and grown significantly. And it’s always those first steps that are the hardest. You find certainly when we get to our size now, opening a new office, yes, a lot of thought goes into it, but it’s not the huge milestone and the huge leap and the huge commitment that it used to be.
I remember the first time that I recruited three employees in one go and I thought that was colossal. And then we opened, believe it or not, three new offices on one occasion, which again was a colossal milestone. But you find over time, you grow gradually and then you pause and you look back and you think, wow.
