We are delighted to announce that Newtons Solicitors have been appointed Silver Hospice Care Champions due to our regular and generous donations to Saint Michael’s Hospice here in Harrogate.
Our donations have already funded hundreds of hours of expert end-of-life care and, as Silver Hospice Care Champions, we are honoured to continue supporting the exceptional work that St Michael’s Hospice does for our local community.
Who are Saint Michael’s Hospice?
For nearly four decades, Saint Michael’s Hospice has been providing care and support to the people of Harrogate. From establishing their first drop-in and telephone helpline in 1986 and admitting their first inpatient in 1989, to deploying their first community nurse in 2010, Saint Michael’s has consistently grown and innovated its services to meet the needs of our community.
In addition to offering specialist home care and accommodating terminally ill inpatients at their Crimple House and Burton House facilities, their Just ‘B’ bereavement support service helps children and adults through the grieving process, whether or not their loss was connected to St Michael’s Hospice.
What does Saint Michael’s mean to Newtons Solicitors?
Newtons Solicitors started their donations to Saint Michael’s after they supported one of our founders, Sarah Newton, through the final stages of her fight with cancer. First diagnosed in July 2009, Sarah fought back her cancer three times before passing away in June 2024. During the final week of her life, Saint Michael’s Hospice was instrumental in easing the pain for Sarah, as well as supporting her family through their loss.
“Having been in Harrogate since 1996, it was easy to become insulated from the requests from St Michael’s for money. It wasn’t until I had a need of their service that I realised how important it was and am now very happy to donate regularly.”
Christopher Newton, Managing Director
Following regular monthly donations following Sarah’s death, Saint Michael’s invited Newtons to become a founding member of its Care Champions business initiative, giving us the opportunity to participate more closely with the charity in its fundraising efforts.
How can I support Saint Michael’s Hospice?
Newtons and the community of Harrogate owe so much to the kindness and respect Saint Michael’s has given to so many over the last four decades.
In May 2025, our own Chris Newton is completing the West Highland Way to raise money for St Michaels in honour of Sarah, his late wife. He will be walking 10 miles each day for 10 days between Glasgow and Fort William.
We would be thrilled if you could contribute to Christopher’s fundraising walk, or you could donate to Saint Michael’s directly to start supporting their noble cause.
