Business deals are complex and require extensive planning to land successfully. In this video, commercial solicitor Isobel Willoughby discusses the elements that need consideration when negotiating a business deal, and why it is important to plan for both the lift-off and the landing.

Why Planning Is Key to Landing Business Deals Transcript

So, NASA has launched another mission to the moon, which, depending on who you ask, is either a historic moment or something we’ve already done. I’m not going to get into that one, but either way, getting something like that off the ground and actually landing it successfully takes a huge amount of planning. You don’t just point a rocket at the sky and hope for the best. There’s structure, there’s sequencing, there are multiple stages that all need to happen in the right order.

And business deals aren’t all that different. Because, from the outside, a deal can look quite simple. You agree a price, you sign some documents, and that’s it. But in reality, there are a lot of moving parts behind the scenes: due diligence, deal structure, funding, tax, documentation, conditions that need to be satisfied before completion. And if one of those elements isn’t properly thought through, things don’t quite land where you expect it. And, unlike a space mission, you don’t get a second launch window quite so easily.

So, if you’re thinking about buying or selling a business, it’s not just about getting the deal off the ground; it’s about making sure it’s going to land successfully. If you want help navigating that process, that’s exactly what we do. It’s not rocket science.
